In the wake of recent police killings across the country, a photographer, Praise-Legend Onwuachu, said he had to resort to grabbing and holding on to the gun of a policeman, who was about to shoot him while conducting a search on him and his friends on Monday, December 26. Onwuachu, who explained that he was on his way back from covering an event on Boxing Day, had driven from Owerri, Imo State to Onitsha, Anambra State without incident, until he got to Nkpor Junction and encountered a team of policemen. He said a member of the team asked him if he had a tinted glass permit, which he said he had and was trying to retrieve the document as he sat in his car when one of them became angry, asking, “So, you don’t want to come down?” Onwuachu said, “I told him I wanted to get the document he asked for before alighting from my car. A 42-year-old woman, Omolade Omoniyi, who is now late, has revealed in a video released by her family how she believed the house of her husband, a pastor with the Christ Apostolic Church, Onigbogbo, Atan Ota, Ogun State, Pastor Olusegun Omoniyi, was bewitched, making her sick till she died. The release of the video is coming more than 10 months after she died following what her family termed “mysterious attacks” which had forced her to flee her matrimonial home. The deceased woman’s family told Saturday PUNCH that the video, which is one of many that were recorded few days before Omolade died, was shot in order to get her personal accounts on record. “Please for God’s sake, don’t let me die. Take me to wherever you know I will get help. I have been calling you (her husband), but you ignored my calls. Everybody help me to beg him. A 37-year-old man, Victor Ojiaku, who allegedly stabbed his wife, a student, with a broken bottle in her private part, has been granted bail in the sum of N250,000 by the Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court. Ojiaku, who sells automobile parts and resides at 22, Arike John Close, White Sand, Isheri-Osun in Lagos State, reportedly stabbed his wife whom he suspected of having a sexual relationship with his sales representative. Magistrate Akeem Fashola, who gave the ruling, also ordered the accused to produce two sureties in like sum.He said the sureties should be working in reputable organisations and also possess three-year tax clearance as well as the Lagos State resident identity card. President Muhammadu Buhari late Friday evening formally received the flag retrieved by troops from the stronghold of the Boko Haram sect, Sambisa Forest, last week. A 72-year-old man arrested in Iwo, Osun state for removing a human skull from a cemetery says he made a mistake, Daily Trust reports. Idris Ajao claimed to be a bricklayer, but said a herbalist Tajudeen Jawesola had assigned him to exhume skulls from graves in the cemetery in return for N10,000. Police, acting on a tipoff, deployed around the cemetery and arrested him with a skull. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Fimihan Adeoye said police detectives got the hint about the atrocities of Ajao and trailed him until he was caught with the skull. Ajao told Daily Trust, “Mistake has no master.” “It was Jawesola that asked me to get the human skull for him. Everybody knows Jawesola to be herbalist and he wanted to use the human skull to do his work. He said he would give me N10, 000. I should not have listened to him. It is a mistake”. Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has insisted that the club will not sell Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid or any other club. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of fighting his perceived political foes under the guise of fighting corruption. An attempt by Boko Haram fighters to invade Rann,a small community in Borno State yesterday ended in a tragedy for the terror sect . At least 15 of them were killed in a dawn attack on a contingent of soldiers from 3 Battalion and 112 Task Force Battalion stationed in the area. The troops overpowered the invaders killing 15 on the spot,while the rest took to their heels. The terrorists are believed to be among those recently dislodged from Sambissa Forest Military sources said yesterday that the shootout lasted several hours. A man from Likoni in Mombasa County, in Kenya suffered serious burns after his wife threw hot cooking oil on him on Sunday, December 25. According to eDaily, Evelyn Atieno had accused her husband Bruce Omondi of infidelity, and on the fateful day she bought two liters of cooking oil from a shop, boiled it and poured it on his head, chest, and private parts before escaping. Confirming the incident, Likoni OCPD Willy Simba said police are looking for Atieno, who remains at large. Simba says Atieno, 30, burned her husband Sunday morning while he was still asleep following a Saturday night disagreement over food and the man’s alleged philandering habits. Ten persons, including an aged man, escaped death as fire razed down buildings as well as commercial shops in the early hours of Friday, in Warri area of Delta State. The incident, which occurred about 1a.m. on Friday and lasted till 3:20 a.m, at Ekurode Urhobo in Warri ,was attributed to an electric spark. A 41-year-old welder, Lukmon Kolawole, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing a married woman with bottle for fighting his wife, New telegraph reports. Kolawole, a resident of Aresanolu St. Agege, Lagos, is being tried for breach of peace and assault. According to the prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the accused committed the offence on Dec. 19 at his residence. He said that the accused assaulted one Mrs Joy Asekharme by beating and stabbing her on her head. Nwosu said that the accused came home and met his wife in a physical fight with the complainant. “He came home to meet his wife in a fight with his co-tenant, instead of him to separate the fight, he joined his wife in the fight by punching the complainant all over her body. “The accused was not satisfied with the punches alone so, he rushed inside to pick a bottle, smashed it on the ground and stabbed the complainant on her head,” he said.
