Two weeks after Lagos state government signed into law the Property Protection bill which is aimed at putting an end to land grabbing in the state, an Ojodu magistrate court yesterday sentenced a land grabber otherwise known as Omo Onile, 37 year old Lekan Adetona, to three months in prison for beating up a site worker who refused to give him money at a site at Anobi Street, Alapere, Ketu. According to the victim who is a welder, Lekan connived with others still at large to severely beat him up when he refused to give them money. He said on the day of the attack, he had gone to meet some of his friends at a site on Anobi Street, where they were to carry out some construction work. On getting there, he didn’t meet them and as he turned to return to his shop, a group of three young men led by Lekan accosted him and demanded for money, thinking he was the site engineer. Youth and Sports Minister Barrister Solomon Dalung has charged the Nigeria Football Federation to pay the U-23 National team’s Coach Samson Siasia. The Minister gave the charge when Siasia paid him a visit yesterday in his office in Abuja. Siasia had visited with his wife Eunice to officially inform him that his contract with the NFF has ended. The militants whose attacks have caused a huge dip in Nigeria’s oil exports, forcing the economy into a big crisis, said last night that they were done with the hostilities. The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) broke the news in a letter posted on its website by its spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari. It also spoke of the need for regular dialogue to take place for the Nigerian union to survive. A pastor, Mr Timothy Ngwu of Gods' Favor Ministry, Nsukka, was on Monday docked at a Magistrates Court in Enugu North for converting another man’s wife and daughter to his wives. According to Vanguard, Veronica Ngwu, the pastor’s wife petitioned the court over the development. The women he was said to have converted were members of his church. However, one of the victims, Calista Omeye, told the court that her husband, Fidelis Omeye convinced her to meet the pastor as he wanted her to do the will of God through the  pastor and it was with his consent that their daughter was given to the pastor in marriage. One thousand and seventy one illegal workers have been uncovered in the employment sector of the Kwara State government, it was learnt yesterday. The government said it lost N400 million monthly to the illegal workers in the last few months. Alhaji Musa Yeketi, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development disclosed this at the book launch of the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Shehu AbdulGafar. Yeketi attributed the incident to dishonesty among civil servants, adding that appropriate actions were being taken against those culpable. A Washington state mother stood by and watched while a man, possibly her boyfriend, threw her 4 year old son off a 27 foot railroad bridge into the Wynoochee River in Montesano. An eye witness, Kaylub Fawley, who saw the couple and the screaming child knew something wasn't right and started recording the incident. Another eye witness, Brianna Jones said 'He was screaming and crying, it was terrible,' Kaylub Fawley, who recorded the scene and posted the video on Facebook, said: 'As soon as he hit the water, my heart sank, I felt so bad, I didn't know what to do. 'I saw the little boy and I had a gut feeling,' he added. 'I was like alright I got to start recording this, and as soon as I started recording, he went off.' Niger Delta Avengers have written an open letter to President Buhari, accusing him of using the military through its new formation,  Operation Crocodile Smile, to carry out pre-determined genocide in the Niger Delta region. The Nigerian Army last week launched the "Operation Crocodile Smile" which they say is just a training drill designed to prepare the Amphibious Division for a better mastery of the Niger Delta terrain. The militant groups in its open letter, allege that the military formation is part of a pre-determined genocide to be carried out in the Niger Delta region. The group says President Buhari's statement in Kenya over the weekend that they should come forward for negotiation or be treated as Boko Haram members, gives credence to the allegations of pre-determined genocide. On Sunday evening a bus driver and father of five lost his life when a stray bullet from a mobile policeman hit him. According to The Vanguard the incident which occurred at Doyin bus-stop in Orile caused drivers of mass transit buses plying the Okoko/CMS route to boycott activities in protest. The deceased, identified simply as Fatai was said to have been hit when a mobile policeman, who was escorting a jeep, reportedly fired some shots into the air apparently to disperse vehicles which blocked the road, only for a bullet to hit the mass transit bus driver. One of the protesting drivers, Ishola Manni, said, “Our friend and colleague, Fatai, popularly called Oshe was killed by a mobile policeman on Sunday. He died leaving behind a wife and five children. Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Monday said that the total pension burden hanging on Imo Government as at July, 2016, is more than N16 billion. Okorocha, who made the disclosure during a news conference in Owerri, said his priority now is how to offset the pension burden. “As we talk, my priority now is to clear the entire pension owe Imo retirees. “How I will do that is only what is before me now and I will address that soonest, “ he said. The killer reportedly stabbed his neighbour on the chest and the guy died instantly, just because of common phone battery.
